Folks,

The $89 current price tag is a bit more than the same thing offered at Fido ($69) and Petro-Canada Mobility ($79)

Nokia 2220 - 1

Nokia 2220 - 2

However, as with other featured models at SpeakOut, SlingShot comes with 20 minutes of airtime to start. Then another $59 off with the current $100 airtime purchase, it is not too shabby for the value — especially to those need to get more airtime anyway.

BTW, not all locations have it yet but should come in time for the September promo.

Got this today in Vancouver, nice basic phone. I only got $5 startup bonus though.

cmpunk,

Sorry, I have made a mistake and now the correction…. It should be 20 minutes of included airtime – NOT $20 worth of airtime balance.

howi,

No worries, friend. Thanks for clearing that up and thank you for making this thread, otherwise I wouldn't have known this phone was available.

Does this mean there won't be a qwerty phone coming out soon? I was hoping they'd bring that out this year.

How is the browsing on this phone? I'm thinking about getting it, mostly for the $10 unlimited browsing. Would you recommend it?

Cheers

Mobile web browsing experiences on phones like this are all pretty much the same, limited, slow and frustrating. In a pinch it'll get you the info you need, but it may take you ten page loads to get there. Nowhere near the experience you would have on a smartphone. But if thats all you need, its worth the $10 per month.

Can anyone comment on the sound quality of this phone? I got the Nikia 2720 a few days ago and I'm desperately searching for something better. I simply cannot hear who i'm talking to on the 2720 if I'm in any moderately noisy environment, for example, near a busy street. This is with the volume turned to the max and my ear desperately searching for the optimal listening spot… Which,as another commenter pointed out is right where a painful edge presses against the hardest part of your ear!

I'm wondering if the 2220 is any better in this regard or is it the same garbage?

I got this phone (2220) today and volume seems to be fine when using it in a quiet room. It had some noise interruptions when I called to add airtime and to setup voicemail. Later I received a call from my bro and voice was clear and very audible at default volume. Didn't try to raise the volume so I don't know if it goes any higher. My bro remarked how clear it sounded. Maybe reception in your area is not good or something. I'll test it in noisy area next time (when someone call me, that is) and give update maybe.

Is there anyone with some experience with the Nokia 2220? The specifications and some of the reviews for it are a bit disappointing. Also, is it locked? If so, is there any reliable way to unlock it?
